Apple Galette

Maya

Ingredients:

Dough:

1/4 cup salted butter

3/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp granulated sugar

4 tbsps cold water

Filling:

1/4 cup salted butter, melted

3 tbsps brown sugar + more for the crust

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp vanilla

2 large honey crisp apples, sliced thin

1 large egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough by using a handheld cheese grater to grate the butter, place in a small bowl - then freeze for 10 minutes. In a large bowl combine flour, salt and sugar.

  2. Whisk the cold butter into the flour, until the flour mixture starts to thicken, then slowly add the water 1 tablespoon at a time. Gather the dough into a ball and transfer into a sealed container or tightly wrap the bowl with plastic wrap. Then refrigerate for 45 minutes until the dough is cold.

  3. In another bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla - whisk until the brown sugar clumps are smooth.

  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Next, roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface - then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet into a circular shape. Place your thin apple slices in a cohesive design in the center of the rolled out dough. Pour the butter/ sugar mixture all over the apples.

  5. Fold the edges of the dough around the apples. Then using a pastry brush, brush the crust with the beaten egg. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of the egg wash crust.

  6. Lastly, bake the galette for 45 - 50 minutes until the crust is golden.

Slice and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
